Created for Jack Pine Folk Club, this 6-colour reduction lino print, from Lisa’s original design, captures the spirit of the jack pine, a scraggly species of evergreen that seldom grows straight and prefers sandy, rocky soil.
Lisa’s design was inspired by a visit to East Bideford, PEI, where there’s a great concentration of jack pines at the end of the Burleigh Road.
In a reduction lino print a single linoleum block is carved and printed in successive layers. This carving and printing, carving and printing process layers different colours of ink—in this case copper, blue, yellow, light yellow, red, and blue—until the finished print emerges, destroying the block in the process.
Because this is a reduction print, only 70 of the prints were printed; no further originals can be pulled from the block.
Printed on a 1915 Golding Jobber No. 8 letterpress.
