Leona’s Fox was inspired by photos taken by an amateur photographer who lives in a small Prince Edward Island town. Red foxes visit her yard throughout the year, and she posts beautiful photos in the PEI Good News Only group on Facebook. She granted permission for her photo to be used as the inspiration for this print.
An experiment in depicting a fox, it was printed as a "reduction" lino print, where a single linoleum block is carved and printed in successive layers. It required several rounds of carving away parts of the block, several different layers of ink (burnt sienna, gold, dark brown, and black). Pen and watercolour (yellows and blues) were used for detail, and to make the background more vibrant.
